Dr. Thamer Altaim, Vice President

Dr. Thamer Ahmad Altaim is a Jordanian physiotherapist, researcher, and academic specializing in neuro-musculoskeletal and sports physiotherapy. As Vice President of the Jordan Athletic Therapy Association under the Jordan Olympic Committee, he contributes to shaping national standards for athlete care, injury prevention, and performance rehabilitation. He is also an Assistant Professor of Physiotherapy and Head of the Scientific Research Committee in the Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences at The Hashemite University, Jordan.

He holds a PhD in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy with Distinction from the University of Sheffield, a Master’s in Applied Physiotherapy (Musculoskeletal) with Merit from Sheffield Hallam University, and a BSc in Physiotherapy from the University of Jordan. His clinical experience spans rehabilitation settings in both Jordan and the UK, where he has treated musculoskeletal injuries, trauma cases, and chronic pain using manual therapy and therapeutic exercise. This expertise also informed a CPD-accredited workshop he developed on gait analysis and balance monitoring for sports physiotherapists.

His research includes studies on kinematic chain training for shot put athletes, kinesiophobia and dynamic balance, gait and postural control, and the cross-cultural adaptation of clinical outcome measures into Arabic, including the STarT Back Tool. He is also the named inventor on four UK-registered rehabilitation device designs. In addition, he contributes to the global scientific community as a peer reviewer for multiple international journals and has received an Outstanding Reviewer Award from Elsevier.

Through his combined roles in athletic governance, academia, and applied research, Dr. Altaim continues to bridge scientific evidence and practical athlete care, supporting the advancement of sports rehabilitation standards across the region.
